Offer Description

Aims and tasks:

 

1) Visual and written documentary research in digital files;

2) Visual and written documentary research at the Portuguese Geography Society (Sociedade de Geografia Portuguesa) and at the National Museum of Ethnology (Museu Nacional de Etnologia);

3) Visual and written documentary research in documentary collections and memory collection of exhibitions/artists' works;

4) Information gathering work at the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation and José de Guimarães Collection (trip to the north of Portugal financed by the CIAJG);

5) Collaboration in the organization of documentary and visual material collected for exhibition purposes.

 

Duration, scope and funding: This fellowship will have the length of 5 months, non-renewable, scheduled to start in May 2023. Is associated with the IHA seed-project “Investigação documental e visual no âmbito da exposição Primitivo: uma cartografia atípica a partir de Portugal (CIAJG, Guimarães, 2023)”, financed by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC).

 

The scholarship amount is €1199,64 per month (according to the table of scholarship values directly attributed by FCT, I.P. in the country) (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). To this value is added the voluntary social insurance corresponding to the first level, in case the candidate opts for its attribution, as well as the personal accident insurance.

 

Eligibility criteria:

The scholarship is intended for a PhD student in Art History, with a MA degree in Contemporary Art History (final grade must not be lower than 17 in the Portuguese scale) and a BA degree in Art History (final grade must not be lower than 15 in the Portuguese scale).

 

Candidates must meet the eligibility conditions provided in the Article 6º of the FCT I.P Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships (2019).

 

The candidate(s) cannot exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of one year in this type of scholarship, followed or interpolated.

 

Important notice regarding the Application Admission Requirements mentioned above:

•In the case of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and in order to guarantee the application of the principle of equal treatment to candidates who hold foreign and national academic degrees, it is mandatory to recognize these degrees and convert the respective final classification to the Portuguese rating scale. The recognition of foreign academic degrees and diplomas as well as the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese classification scale can be required in any public higher education institution, or in the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES). We suggest that you consult the DGES portal through the following address: http://www.dges.gov.pt.

•The scholarship is always dependent on the presentation of proof of the required academic qualifications.

5.       Declaration on honor that, with the conclusion of the grant agreement in question, an accumulated period of one year in this type of grant, consecutive or interpolated, does not exceed, and that he/she has not already been a beneficiary of any other direct or indirect research grant financed by the FCT

6.       Other supporting documents considered relevant.

 

Selection Methods:

The evaluation takes into account the candidate’s application and qualifications, and the motivation letter. Applications considered admissible will be scored on a scale of 1 to 20 in each of the following evaluation criteria:

-          Curriculum vitae (30%);

-          Experience in documentary research (25%)

-          Level of spoken and written English (20%)

-          Motivation letter to join the project (25%)

Form of advertising / notification of results:

The final results of the evaluation will be publicized, through a list ordered by the final grade obtained by the candidates, posted on the IHA website, and the successful candidates will be notified through e-mail.

Workplace: The work will be carried out in Lisbon at the School of Social and Human Sciences, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa - Colégio Almada Negreiros - Campus de Campolide, framed by the Institute of Art History of NOVA FCSH, under the scientific supervision of Mariana Pinto dos Santos, and in libraries, archives, museums, newspaper libraries, and at the CIAJG (Lisbon-Guimarães axis).
