In this project, the candidate will investigate the psychological processes related to the risk for the development of psychosis (or subclinical psychotic symptoms) in a normative adolescent cohort - SIGMA. SIGMA is a large-scale, accelerated longitudinal study of adolescent mental health and development in Flanders involving almost 2000 adolescents. The candidate will participate in the second wave of the SIGMA study, which investigates the relationship between social and environmental risk and protective factors and mental health outcomes, using self-report questionnaires, experimental tasks, activity tracking, and the Experience Sampling Method (ESM), an electronic diary technique enabling the collection of real-time data on individuals’ behaviors and experiences. The candidate will work alongside other PhD students and research assistants in a dynamic team and would be involved in recruitment, data collection (remotely and in schools), preparation of study materials and equipment, data analysis and writing up manuscripts for publication.
A contract for one year will be offered, which is renewable for another three years after positive evaluation. Salaries for PhD students are competitive by international standards. The starting date is flexible, but no later than January 1st 2021.
The candidate has a Master’s degree in Psychology or a related field (Mental Health, Psychiatry, Social/Health Sciences). The candidate should have good knowledge of statistics and research methods. Previous experience with or knowledge of the experience sampling method and literature on psychosis is a plus. Also, the candidate should have good written and oral command of Dutch and English (C1 proficiency level).
