Offer Description
The competition is open to persons who meet the conditions set out in Article 113 of the Act of 20 July 2018 - Law on higher education and science (Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1668) and the following qualification criteria:
We are seeking a candidate for a 1-year post-doctoral position in massive-star and gravitational astrophysics. The position is funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) in Poland under the OPUS research grant led by dr. hab. Dorottya Szecsi, prof. UMK.
Applicants with experience in super-massive binaries, cosmology and modified gravity are wel-come. The applicant is expected to investigate effects of modified gravity theories on star-clusters, supermassive binary merger statistics, population-III stars and high-redshift observations. The goal of the position will be to assess whether cosmology-motivated modified gravity theories could also leave observable imprints on the statistics of stellar physics. Modified theories in rela-tion to the Planck 2018 curvature tension will be of particular interest, and a prior publication re-cord in this area is expected. The successful applicant will be supported to develop and pursue independent research ideas, building their own academic career.
The candidate should have a PhD in Physics, Astrophysics or Astronomy. The appointment is offered for up 1 year. Expected starting date: 15th December 2026. Speaking Polish is not a re-quirement. Remuneration amount: approximately 7 500 PLN/month gross (total remuneration cost, including full social security and health insurance: 120 000 PLN per year).
Project title: "Gravitational-wave progenitors - Completing the picture with multi-purpose binary population synthesis"
