The Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) invites applications for a Technician (TCP4, MECES 2) position within the research line "Artisanal fisheries and fish behaviour" .
The position is associated with the research project: “Implicaciones de la talla de madurez masiva en las estructuras genéticas y características reproductivas y de crecimiento en especies de peces de interés pesquero”

The contract is permanent, financed until the end date of the research project . The successful candidate will work at Office B-203.1 (Basic Sciences Building, Tafira Campus) .
Main Responsibilities
The duties will be carried out within the study area of the GRANDES project in the Canary Islands, specifically on the island of Gran Canaria . The candidate will be responsible for:
- Collaborating in the search, collection, and synthesis of literature reviews regarding the status of the target species, reproductive parameters, and historical data .
- Supporting the design and execution of experimental protocols for genetic, histological, and growth analyses of the target species .
- Conducting biometric measurements and recording biological variables required for maturity and growth studies .
- Managing the traceability, labeling, and conservation of biological samples, ensuring their proper custody until analysis .
- Providing technical support in compiling and systematizing historical catch series and oceanographic variables required for resilience studies .
- Entering and data cleaning/filtering within biological and fisheries databases, ensuring information quality for statistical analysis .
- Developing graphical support, tables, and descriptive diagrams to facilitate the interpretation of results concerning biomass and fecundity .
- Supporting the preparation of administrative documentation, meeting minutes, and technical support materials necessary for indicator tracking .
- Participating in the logistical organization of workshops, coordination meetings, and transfer sessions for the fishing sector .
- Collaborating in the design, layout, and dissemination of project outreach materials .
- Supporting the monitoring of the project schedule and checking compliance with milestones established for project justification .

Additional Information
- Contract Type: Permanent linked to a research line / scientific-technical services.
- Working Schedule: Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 15:30 (37.5 hours/week).
- Workplace: Office B-203.1, Basic Sciences Building, Tafira Campus, ULPGC.
- Monthly Salary: €1,425.12 gross.
- Proposed Starting Date: 01/06/2026.
- Probation Period: 2 months.
The maximum score is 100 points . Candidates must achieve a score of at least 60 points in the merits phase to qualify for the interview stage .
1. Research and Professional Experience (Up to 50 points)
- Suitability of experience for the job profile: analysis of exploited population dynamics, fisheries resource assessment, marine sampling campaigns, vessel fieldwork, and collection/analysis of biological and fisheries data .
- Certified participation in scientific or technical projects/contracts with universities, research centers, or public administrations .
- Mastery of instrumental techniques and data analysis (Statistical software such as R, SPSS, Python, and database management/organization) .
- Dissemination and training activities (Participation in conferences, workshops, technical sessions, or outreach events) .
2. Academic Training (Up to 20 points)
- Master's academic record / Bachelor's average grade .
- Complementary training relevant to the position (Courses in fisheries management, marine sustainability, statistical analysis, sampling techniques, or data analysis/IT tools) .
3. Other Merits (Up to 10 points)
- Knowledge of the Canarian fisheries context .
- Experience in marine sustainability or conservation projects .
- Professional/technical English language certification .
4. Interview and/or Practical Test (Up to 20 points)
- Interviews will be conducted exclusively for the top 3 ranked candidates .
- Criteria evaluated: Suitability for the GRANDES project, basic knowledge of sustainable fisheries management and marine biodiversity, teamwork skills, availability for fieldwork, and overall motivation .
- Identity document copy (DNI, passport, NIE, or equivalent) .
- Copy of the required university degree (with official Spanish recognition/homologation if obtained abroad) .

- Supporting certificates for all specific requirements, contracts, projects, conferences, courses, and language proficiencies claimed as merits .
