The Chair of Automation and Measurement in the Department of Product Engineering has a position for a full-time Project Researcher (m/f/d) in the field of “Tactile Robotics”.

Salary Group B1 according to the UNI-KV, monthly minimum salary excl. Szlg.: € 3.714,80 for 40 hours per week (14x per year), actual classification is according to previous relevant experience.

Date of expected start of employment: 01.09.2025 or 01.10.2025
Term of employment: 3 years (initial one-year contract, with the possibility of a two-year extension following a positive evaluation)
Hours of employment per week: 40 hours

Responsibilities: 
The Chair of Automation and Measurement is seeking a motivated project researcher (m/f/d) for the scientific project MUTAVIA (Multimodal Tactile-Visual Robotic Gripping Systems for Industrial Applications). 
The position offers the opportunity to conduct independent research and pursue a doctoral degree in a highly interdisciplinary field. The focus lies on the investigation and prototypical implementation of innovative tactile sensor systems and their integration into novel robotic grasping technologies. The aim of the research is to develop new finger-based tactile gripper systems that enable delicate interactions with objects and humans, as well as skillful and complex grasping tasks, by leveraging control engineering approaches and machine learning methods. Potential application areas for the technologies being developed include robotic sorting of textile waste, manipulation tasks in industrial automation, and humanoid robotics solutions.
 

Employment requirements: 
Completed Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Telematics, Biomedical Engineering, or a comparable field relevant to the position
Excellent knowledge in sensor technology and measurement systems, mechatronics, signal processing, and control engineering
Proficiency in MATLAB; experience in C and LabVIEW is an advantage
Fluency in English (spoken and written); good command of German is beneficial
Strong aptitude for independent scientific research, including the preparation and publication of academic work and a doctoral dissertation
High level of self-motivation, reliability, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Willingness to learn and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration

Desirable additional qualifications: 
Hands-on skills in electronics development, including PCB design, analog and digital sensor integration 
Solid understanding of kinematics and control of dynamic mechatronic systems
Practical experience in 3D modeling, prototyping and 3D printing
Willingness to engage in scientific research within a multidisciplinary project team and contribute to international collaborations, including research travel and conference presentations
