The University of Bremen, Faculty 06 - Law, invites applications for the following full-time position starting on October 1st, 2025:
Lecturer (f/m/d)

Field: Transnational Law
Fixed-term for three years.
The fixed-term contract is based on § 2 para. 1 of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG) for the purpose of academic qualification. Therefore, only candidates who have not yet exhausted the qualification period under that regulation (6 years of academic employment in Germany after completion of the Ph.D.), can be considered.
Lecturers at the University of Bremen conduct academic work in their field with a focus on teaching. They carry out independent research and teaching in accordance with § 24 para. 1 of the Bremen Higher Education Act. The regular teaching load amounts to 12 contact hours per week per semester (LVNV § 4 para. 4 (ee)).
Who We Are and What to Expect
Law has been a core discipline at the University of Bremen since its founding in 1971. Today, 15 professorships and a large number of academic staffs cover a broad and internationally oriented range of topics. More than 1,500 students are enrolled across several areas of concentration. Degrees awarded include Bachelors and Masters as well as the First State Examination in Law.
Your Responsibilities
The position involves independently teaching law courses within the Master’s program Transnational Law.
Your research should contribute innovatively and internationally to the development of legal concepts in transnational law—potentially in areas such as commercial law, legal theory, international relations law, environmental and animal protection law, labour law or housing law. Teaching responsibilities include examination duties and the independent supervision and grading of Master’s theses. The position also involves taking responsibility for specific modules. Collaboration with academic staff within the faculty is essential for this purpose. Additionally, engagement in academic administration is expected.
Your Qualifications
- A completed university degree in law with above-average results
- A doctorate in a current legal research area with excellent academic quality
- Demonstrated teaching skills and experience at university level
- Very good command of English, as English-taught courses are required from the outset
- German language skills or the willingness to learn German
(Note: An appointment to the higher salary group TV-L 14 requires a completed doctoral degree and several years of relevant teaching and research experience after the PhD.)
