Offer Description

Work Plan: The aim of the work is the production, extraction and characterization of microbial biopolymers.

Fellowship duration: The fellowship will last for 6 months, starting in September 2025. The fellowship contract may eventually be renewed within the term of the project.

Application deadline and form of application submission: The call is open from the 1 st July to the 14 th July 2025.

Documentation to be provided at the time of application: Applications must be formalized by sending the following documents: Letter of application, Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications (at the application stage this may be replaced by a declaration of honor as stated in point 2) and other supporting documents deemed relevant. 

Candidates must be enrolled on a doctorate or a non-degree course as part of an educational project at a Higher Education Institution. Documents proving this status must be submitted at the latest by the time the scholarship is contracted, and may be replaced by a declaration of honor. 

In case of foreign academic degrees, and to guarantee the application of the principle of equal treatment to applicants with national and foreign academic degrees, it is mandatory to submit the recognition of such degrees and the conversion of the respective final grade to the Portuguese grading scale.

The following requirements will be valued: i) Experience in bioreactor operation; ii) Motivation for research and good work capacity; iii) Good knowledge of English; iv) willingness to undertake doctoral studies. 

The candidate must be enrolled in a PhD or in a non-degree course integrated in an educational project of a Higher Education Institution. Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €1309.64, having as reference the table of values of the scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal, with payment made monthly by bank transfer.

Selection process

Selection criteria: The selection methods to be used and the respective weighting will be as follows: 

1st Phase: a. Curricular assessment (grade from 1 to 20) weighting 50%; b. Experience in the research area (score from 1 to 20) weighting 50%. 

The three best-ranked candidates will go through the selection interview phase and the selection methods will change to the following: 

2st Phase: a. Curricular assessment and experience in the research area (score from 1 to 20) weighting 50%; b. Interview (score from 1 to 20) weighting 50%. 

All applications will be evaluated on a scale from 0 to 20 values. 

Candidates who do not obtain a minimum grade of 15, as a result of the jury's evaluation according to the selection criteria, will not be hired.

Composition of the Selection Jury: Prof. Maria A. Reis (Effective Member), Dr. Bruno Marreiros (Effective Member), Dr. Mónica Carvalheira (Effective Member), Dr. Joana Fradinho and Dr. Cristiana Torres (Substitute Members).

Form of advertising/notification of results: The evaluation results proposed by the juri will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list. After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT's Board through the address coord1@novaidfct.pt.
