Title: Research Scholarship for Master's Degree Holder (1 vacancy)

A call is now open for the award of 1 Research Scholarship within the scope of the Digital Twins project (2025.00122.DT4ST, cc-0404020112).

Scientific Area: Architecture or related fields

Category/profile of candidates:

Mandatory requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Architecture or related areas, preferably with a focus on historic architectural heritage studies.
  • Proficiency in architectural representation tools applicable to the conservation and digitisation of historic heritage.
  • Experience in HBIM (Historic Building Information Modelling).

Work Plan:
The selected research fellow will carry out tasks in the following activities:

  • Collaborate with specialists from various fields, such as architecture, art history, cultural heritage, and digital technologies.
  • Combine historical (documentary sources), material and technical analysis with digital technologies to design interactive experiences about the original 16th-century Madre de Deus Monastery in its devotional context.

Applicable legislation and regulations:
Law No. 40/2004 of 18 August, as amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August (Statute of the Scientific Research Fellow), and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October, Law No. 12/2013 of 29 January, Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of 9 July, and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of 28 August; Regulation for Research Fellowships of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt).

Place of work:
The work will take place at several locations as foreseen in the project, depending on needs, under the scientific supervision of Professors Dr. Márcia Vilarigues and Dr. Nuno Correia, and Dr. Rosário Salema de Carvalho. The contracting entity is the Faculty of Science and Technology, NOVA University Lisbon.

Duration of the scholarship:
The scholarship will last for 8 months, with an expected start date of 1 August 2025. The contract may be renewed depending on the project's duration.

Monthly maintenance allowance:
The scholarship amount is €1,309.64, in line with the table of scholarship values awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal, paid monthly via bank transfer.

Selection methods:
Candidates will be evaluated on a scale from 0 to 20, with the following weighting:

  • a) Curriculum evaluation (75%)
  • b) Prior knowledge of concepts and technologies relevant to the project (25%)

The scholarship may not be awarded if applications are deemed unsuitable.
The Faculty of Science and Technology of NOVA University Lisbon reserves the right not to proceed with hiring if no suitable candidates are identified.

Form of publication/notification of results:
The draft decision of the jury's evaluation will be notified within 90 days after the application deadline via email, granting access to the minutes and the provisional ranking list.

After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to respond to the draft decision in a prior hearing, in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Code. The final decision will be taken after this period and again notified to all candidates via email. Candidates may file a complaint within 15 working days (via the email used for notification) or appeal within 30 working days, addressed to the Department of Conservation and Restoration Secretariat via dcr.secretariado@fct.unl.pt.

  • Proof of enrollment compatible in a Doctorate in a scientific area with the work plan (which can be replaced in the application phase by a declaration of honour)

* For degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions: to ensure equal treatment, official recognition of the degree and conversion of the final grade to the Portuguese grading scale is mandatory.
