Offer Description

This is a fixed-term appointment for an initial period of five years.

The person appointed will also lead the planned Klaus Faber Institute of Neuroimmunology, which will focus on fundamental research on neuroimmunological diseases, particularly multiple sclerosis and its environment. The appointee should be able to teach and conduct research across all areas of neuroimmunology, focusing on the multiple sclerosis complex. The ideal candidate should bring leadership experience and be distinguished for their research excellence.

We are looking for an individual with an established international reputation in their field and an out-standing record in both teaching and research who will contribute significantly to the progress of ongoing projects and will play a key role in establishing new interdisciplinary and interfaculty collaborative projects. Ideally, the successful candidate should demonstrate a clear connection between their research and the faculty’s research agenda. We welcome collaborative cooperation with the Center for Gender-Specific Biology and Medicine, the university's core research hub 'BioMed' and on-campus external research institutions (HIPS, INM, etc.).

The person appointed should have acquired international recognition in the field of neuroimmunological diseases, with the above-mentioned focus, through the publication of high-quality scientific papers and their ability to secure external research funding. The successful candidate will be expected to implement innovative teaching approaches and be willing to play an active role in advising final-year theses and research projects and supporting early career researchers.

Selection process

Please complete the application form in Saarland University's online application portal at www.uni-saarland.de/berufungen and submit it with your application documents by no later than 21 August 2025. Application documents must be uploaded as a single PDF file (max. size 10 MB) and should include the following documents in the order specified:
 

  • Letter of application (addressed to the dean of the Faculty of Medicine)
  • CV/résumé (including your home address, phone number and email address)
  • List of publications
  • Types and amounts of external funding secured
  • Summary of your previous experience in academic teaching and research (incl. teaching appraisals, if available)
  • A two-page paper detailing your teaching concept and a two-page research concept
  • Your five most significant publications of the last five years,
  • Copies of relevant academic qualifications
