Research scholarship for one candidate holding a Master degree is open, for 3 months, eventually renewable for more 3 months and 15 days, in the framework of project with reference 2024.00249.CERN, entitled “ Topological defects as a probe of new physics: from CMB birefringence to gravitational waves” Project supported by measure RE-C06-i06.m02 – "Reinforcement of funding for International Partnerships in Science, Technology and Innovation" of the Recovery and Resilience Plan - PRR, within the framework of the financing contract signed between the Recover Portugal Mission Structure (EMRP) and the Foundation for Science and Technology I.P. (FCT), as an intermediate beneficiary.
ADDF – Associação para o Desenvolvimento do Departamento de Física, a nonprofit private organization, part of the National Scientific and Technological System, opens a call for a scholarship grant to hire a Master for 3 months, starting 15 April, eventually to be renewed according to the applicable laws. The candidate must hold a: Master's degree in Physics, Physics Engineering, or in related areas and be enrolled in a doctorate or non-academic course, integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution, developed in associations or cooperation with one or more R&D units.
The proof of enrollment must be completed until the contract is signed, and the candidate may attach a declaration of commitment to honor that he/she meets the requirements for enrollment in a Doctorate or non-degree awarding course.
Work Plan:
The scholarship holder will support tasks within the scope of this project, namely:
The fellow will perform research in the context of the R&D project “Topological defects as a probe of new physics: from CMB birefringence to gravitational waves”. This project aims to make progress in understanding the dynamics and observational signatures of networks that include one type of defect, the so-called domain wall (DW), in particular, in connection with cosmic birefringence and gravitational waves.
Work place: Department of Physics, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra, Portugal.
Scientific supervision: Doctor Ricardo José Zambujal Ferreira
Additional Information
Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will last for 3 months, starting on 15 April 2025, 2025 and ending on 15 July 2025.
Amount of the monthly maintenance subsidy: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €1.309,64€, according to the table of scholarship values awarded by FCT, I.P. in the country:

In addition to this value the candidate will also benefit from a personal insurance.
Scholarship payments will be made monthly by bank transfer.

Evaluation and selection process:
The selection of the scholarship holder to be hired will be made through the evaluation of the candidate's absolute merit, focusing on the relevance, quality, timeliness and suitability of the candidate for the functions to be performed, according to the following evaluation factors and weightings:
● adequacy of the candidate's profile to the needs of the project (50/100);
● experience in the area of the tasks to be developed (25/100);
● motivation and autonomy (25/100).

Application period: The competition is open from 12 March to 26 March 2025.
Additional information:
The results of the evaluation will be announced by 28 March 2025, by sending a communication to the candidates, via email. After the publication of the results, the candidates will be notified so that, if they wish, they can express their opinion at a prior hearing within a maximum period of 10 working days after that date. After this period, the selected candidates will have to declare, in writing, their acceptance and communicate the effective start date of the scholarship. Unless reasonable justification is presented, failure to provide the statement within the aforementioned period is equivalent to waiver of the scholarship. In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the candidate with the highest ranking will be notified.
