Offer Description

A competition is open for the award of a Research Scholarship within the scope of the project be@t – Textile Bioeconomy (TC-C12-i01 – Sustainable Bioeconomy No. 02/C12-i01/202), funded by European funds allocated to Portugal under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), under the European Union's (EU) Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, framed within the Next Generation EU, for the period 2021 – 2026, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Engineering (Information Systems and Informatics)

Admission Requirements:

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree or equivalent in the field of information systems or a related field.
  • Enrollment in a master's or integrated master's program.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the areas of Web development, PWA, UI/UX, and application interface development.
  • Business knowledge obtained through studies or participation in projects related to interface themes (e.g., Industry, Marketplaces, Materials Management).
  • Demonstrated experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Web Frameworks (e.g., Vue.js, Buefy).

Work Plan: The work plan is part of the research activities developed within the BE@T project, which aims to develop an intelligent industrial symbiosis platform capable of suggesting the best end for a given waste by creating products or byproducts. The system collects and analyzes data from industries (producers and customers), carriers, and waste. The work plan will follow the SCRUM methodology and be structured according to the project's objectives, including developing the user-centric application. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing the front of the PWA and will perform the following tasks:

  • Update the state-of-the-art and technological surveillance to identify example interfaces and UI/UX best practices.
  • Assist in the definition and validation of solution mockups.
  • Develop the front-end layer of the artefact (Back-office and Front-Office) – the work plan details will be produced according to needs every 6 months.
  • Implement and test the developed artefact.
  • Configure and adapt content to the PWA.
  • Document the work done.

As a result, a scalable and modular interface for the PWA will be developed, allowing efficient execution of key solution tasks.

Applicable Legislation and Regulations: Research Fellow Status; Research Scholarship Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. - in force, approved through the FCT/4047/27/09/2021/S letter.

Workplace: The work plan will be developed at the facilities of IOTECH, located at Av. Dom Afonso Henriques 4694, 4760-283 Calendário, Vila Nova de Famalicão, under the scientific guidance of Professor Doctor Carlos Filipe da Silva Portela.

Duration of Scholarship(s): The scholarship will be 6 months, with the expected start in October 2023. The scholarship contract can be renewed for a maximum of 24 months.

Monthly Maintenance Grant Amount: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €930.98 for a bachelor's degree holder, according to the values table for scholarships directly awarded by FCT, I.P. in the country (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf). Payment will be made by the end of the month through a transfer to the scholarship holder's IBAN, as indicated in the contracting process.

Other Benefits: Work insurance.

Exclusivity Regime: The performance of functions as a scholar is carried out exclusively, as provided for in Article 5 of the Research Fellow Statute and applicable research scholarship regulations.

Criteria and Selection Procedures: The evaluation of applications will focus on the candidate's merit, applying the following evaluation criteria, valued on a scale of 1 to 5: Merit of the candidate - MC (100%):

  • Academic background (reflecting the adequacy of the education to the vacancy, final grades of academic degrees or grades obtained in the Curricular Units of the higher professional technical course/bachelor's/master's program), with a weighting of 30%.
  • Personal curriculum vitae with a portfolio of projects (reflecting academic merit, technical knowledge, and transversal skills) and responses to the application questionnaire, weighing 50%.
  • Letter of motivation, with a weighting of 20%. The final merit score of the candidate will be obtained by applying the following formula: MC=(a0.3) + (b0.5) + (c*0.2)

Selection Jury Composition: The Jury comprises the president, Professor Carlos Filipe da Silva Portela, and effective members Sara Furtado and Carlos Fernandes.

Publication/Notification of Results: The final evaluation results will be published by displaying a list ordered by the final grade obtained in a visible and public location of the contracting entity, and the approved candidate will be notified via email.

Application Deadline and Submission: The competition is open from September 6, 2023, to September 20, 2023. (Note: The application deadline should not be less than 10 working days). Applications must be formalized through the submission of a cover letter accompanied by the following documents: curriculum vitae; certificate of qualifications or declaration by the candidate (if applicable); proof of grades obtained in the Curricular Units of the higher professional technical course, bachelor's, integrated master's, or master's program in which the student is enrolled (as applicable); letter of motivation.
